NWO Region/Swim ON Swim Weekend in Dryden

POST EVENT COACH’S NOTES:  Wow! What a great Day!!!! 60 plus NWO Regional Swimmers participated in the swimmer education activities on “swimmer nutrition” and “swimmer stretching” and then competed in the 400 Meter Challenge Swim Meet in the afternoon, while 40 plus parents (20 plus from the KSS) participated in various Officiating Courses. The swimming was very good for so early in the Swim Season, with quite a few PB’s (Personal Best Times) and very few DQ’s (Disqualifications due to stroke and/or turn infractions). And the “officiating” was also very good, with many of our parents learning new responsibilities as far as officiating is concerned. I hope everyone had a great time, and that you are looking forward to the next few weeks as our swim meet season begins to get into full competitive mode.

ORIGINAL POST:

On October 16, the region is hosting both an officials training program and swim meet in Dryden. The officials training is in the morning. The swim meet is in the afternoon and officials can practice their skills learned in the morning. Activities planned for the swimmers (CG2 and CG3) are a nutrition and stretching clinic on Saturday AM; Lunch; then a 400 meter Swim Meet on Saturday afternoon. At this meet each participating swimmer can swim one 200 meter event, one 100 meter event, and two 50 meter events (add it up and you have 400 meters). Awards will be given to our top swimmers in the region as well.

The officials courses being offered are: Stroke and Turn, Chief Finish Judge, Clerk of Course, and Hy-tek. These are important roles to be played at all meets and the more folks we have trained, the stronger our club will be. Volunteer hours will be applied to the training course and the time spent officiating at the meet. Parents are encouraged to take various Officials Clinics on Saturday AM and then Officiate at the swim meet on Saturday afternoon in order to be evaluated and checked-off on the various officials courses.

Swimming and Officials training sessions both begin at 10:00 am. Swimming is at the Recreation Centre on Whyte Ave and Officials training is at the Pinewood School located at 91 Rourke Ave.
