Competitive Program

Competitive Group 1 [CG1] — The KSS Senior Training Group.

Generally swimmers 12 and over

These will be our older, more experienced, swimmers who are committed to serious training and competition. Membership in CG1 will require a high degree of swimming skill and the commitment to maintain a specific attendance level throughout the entire swimming season (September to July/August). Participation in regional, provincial (Ontario and Manitoba) and National Swim Meets is expected from all CG1 members.

Competitive Group 2 [CG2] — The KSS Junior Training Group.

Generally Girls 9 to 13, and Boys 10 to 14.

Our better “younger” swimmers, and a few older swimmers who have started in the sport at a later age and are still developing their skill levels, or are not as committed to swim training due to other school and sports activities. Swimmers will learn/refine all four competitive swimming strokes, skills and race tactics. Emphasis will be upon training and the development of aerobic capacity, and muscular strength and endurance through the systematic application of specific training principles and procedures. CG2 swimmers will be encouraged to attend all local and NWO regional swim meets, and will be eligible for a few select out of region competitions.

Competitive Groups 3 & 4 [CG3, CG4] — KSS entry level competitive training programs.

Swimmers 7 to 13 years.  CG3 is the next developmental step up from CG4

The focus in CG3 and CG4 will be upon learning and perfecting the four competitive swimming strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly) as well as the IM (Individual Medley ~ a combination of all four strokes), race skills (starts and turns) and race tactics. Physical fitness and endurance will be developed through the systematic application of training loads designed to gradually develop aerobic conditioning as well as muscular strength and endurance. Swimmers will be encouraged to attend all local and NWO Regional swim meet competitions, and will be eligible for a few select out of region competitions.

KSS recognizes the importance of relationship building amongst swimmers and will take similar ages and peer groups into consideration when assigning groups and timing movement into the next group.
