Ontario Summer Games ~ NWO team in Sudbury!

Post Meet Summary: The NWO team produced some impressive results at the Ontario Summer Games. The smallest team at the meet with 17 of a possible 24 swimmers brought home 22 medals in total. Leading the way were Takara Martin from the Northwest Narwahls (4 silver, 1 bronze) and Paige Murphy of the Kenora Swimming Sharks (4 gold, 1 bronze) who both earned five trips to the podium out of seven individual swims. Medals were also awarded to Michelle Balcaen (2 gold, 1 silver) (KSS), Jordan Lovis (1 gold, 1 silver), Kaitlyn Hay (1 bronze) and Elizabeth Hurlen (1 bronze) (TBT) and Donovan Taylor (2 silver, 2 bronze) (FF). Lots of finals were swam by all the swimmers with Michelle Balcaen, Donovan Taylor, Takara Martin, Elizabeth Hurlen and Paige Murphy earning a spot in the finals for each of their swims. Every member of the NWO team had a top 10 finishing time.

One of the most exciting finishes for the Northwestern Ontario team was a silver medal for the girls in the 400 M Medley Relay. Numbers don’t typically allow the small by comparison Northwestern Ontario teams to field relay teams but together Paige Murphy, Elizabeth Hurlen, Takara Martin and Michelle Balcaen are a force to be reckoned with.

All in all it was a great experience for our Northwestern Ontario swimmers to pull together as a team, swim hard and have fun. If you can survive a bus ride from Thunder Bay to Sudbury and back, maybe the possibilities are endless!

Original Post: The Northwest Ontario region has entered a team in the Ontario Summer Games. The team, made up of swimmers from the Kenora Swimming Sharks, Thunder Bay Thunderbolts, Northwest Narwahls and Fort Frances Aquanauts will compete in three sessions of swimming on August 11, 12 & 13.
