The Soggy Log ~ April 26 – May 6, 2010
Spring is definitely here, and we have been having some incredibly beautiful weather for everyone to enjoy. I just want to let all KSS parents know that I have been really very pleased with our swimmers efforts during the past few glorious weeks. We been having excellent workout attendance, with some swimmers maintaining perfect attendance since our NWO Open Swim Meet in early April [many other swimmers are attending at an 85 – 90% level], and we have been doing some really incredibly hard work in the pool. This will all translate into fantastic swim meet results during our remaining swim meets in May, June, July and August. What is important here is that our swimmers (and their parents) make the commitment to maintain this level of attendance and hard work and swim meet attendance until the end of our season. If we do, we will be rewarded with some really fantastic swims in the next few weeks and months. Swim meets are sort of like tests; they are the reward for all the hard work done in the pool during our practice sessions, and they are the vehicle by which we gauge our improvement both in terms of time improvement and technical and fitness improvement. Swim Meets are critical to each swimmers development in our sport, and it’s not a coincidence that the most successful swimmers are also the ones who have competed at the most swim meets throughout the course of the whole swim season. Please don’t let our season end without competing at least once more in the remaining swim meets.
North Dakota Coaches Seminar ~ Both Edie and I will be attending a coaching seminar in Fargo, ND this coming weekend. As a result we will have THE FOLLOWING SCHEDULE CHANGES:
• Friday April 30/10 ~ Groups CG1/CG1A/CG2/CG3 – 4:00 – 5:30 PM [CG1 will not swim 5:30 – 6:00 PM as normal] ~ Junior Sharks – 5:30 – 6:30 PM as Normal
• Saturday May 1/10 ~ All sessions CANCELLED.
MB Marlins Golden Plains Invitational, May 7, 8, 9/10 ~ Fourteen KSS swimmers have registered to compete in this swim meet. Swimmers should have all received a listing of their events [these have been available at the pool for the past few days]. If not, they are posted on the pool deck bulletin board. All our swimmers have been training really well, so I’m looking forward to some really fast times in our first long course (50 meter) swim meet of the year.
HYACK Youth Festival Swim Meet, May 21, 22, 23/10, New Westminster, BC ~ Six KSS swimmers will make the trip to Vancouver/New Westminster to compete in this annual swim meet. I think that this will be a very fast meet; the pool is old but fast [the pool is similar in design to the Lawson Centre Pool in Regina], and the added incentive of racing against the very best and fastest swimmers from BC, Alberta, Washington, Oregon, and California, plus the large $ prizes up for grabs in each age category should make this just an incredibly fast weekend of swimming. KSS swimmers making this trip will be Michelle Balcaen, Paige Murphy, Alex Olsen, Bryn and Bryce Jones and Conor O’Flaherty.
REMINDER Swim Meet Entries for the Thunder Bay Thunderbolt International Swim Meet, May 28, 29, 30/10 are due on Wednesday May 5/10. Please make certain to get your entries submitted by the due date.
