Manitoba Marlins New Years Swim Meet, January 23 & 24, 2010  ~  A good swim meet for the five KSS swimmers who traveled to Winnipeg on Friday afternoon; the other five KSS swimmers who had planned to travel into Winnipeg on either Saturday or Sunday AM’s were unable to make the trip due to the winter storm that hit us last weekend.  Some really good swims, and quite a few Personal Best Times. Results are posted on the Swim Canada Swim Meet Website (access from the KSS website). 

KSS Masters Time Trial & Social, Saturday January 30/10  ~  Fantastic!!!!!  We had nineteen Masters swimmers come out to this event, with many “competing” for the very first time. Our evening in the pool featured some really excellent races, with some really pretty fast times recorded by all swimmers. Complete results will be posted on the KSS website shortly. A big “Thank You” to Jenny Stefannson who hosted a pot luck dinner at the conclusion of the Time Trial. 

FFAST Winter Chill Swim Meet, February 5, 6, 7, 2010 in Fort Frances  ~  Fourteen KSS swimmers have registered to compete this coming weekend in Fort Frances.  Results will be posted after the meet. 

KSS Skills Session, Saturday February 13, 2010, 4:30 – 6:00 PM  ~  The emphasis will be on doing “fast” STARTS and TURNS and FINISHES as we enter into final preparation for the NWO Championships in Thunder Bay. All KSS competitive swimmers are encouraged to attend this special skills session. Did you know that about 30–40% of a swimmer’s time is dependant on how well he or she does on their start, their turns and their finish??????  This is one area that is just huge in terms of performance, and we really need to focus on prior to our NWO Championship Swim Meet. Please make every possible effort to attend this session.

A Social Get-together ????? is a possibility after the Skills Session on Saturday PM. More information MAY follow. 

Western Canadian Swimming Championships, February 18, 19, 20, 21, 2010, Saskatoon, SK  ~  Four KSS swimmers have qualified to compete in Saskatoon at this national level swim meet. Representing the KSS will be Laura Stasiuk (19) currently attending school and training at UBC in Vancouver, Michelle Balcaen (15), Paige Murphy (13) and Ronan Cameron (16). Edie and I are hoping for some really excellent swims from all four of our swimmers; hopefully all will come back with PB’s (Personal Best Times) and we may even see some Finals swims. 

NWO Regional Championships, February 26, 27, 28, Thunder Bay  ~  A “Championship” type swim meet for all KSS competitive swimmers. It is very important that ALL our competitive swimmers make the trip to Thunder Bay for this swim meet. Not only is the NWO Regional Championship on the line, but all our swimmers need to experience just what a “CHAMPIONSHIP” swim meet involves. If you had not planned on making this trip PLEASE reconsider. We will have lots of room on the KSS Team bus, our swimmers will all have lots of fun on this weekend swim meet, and as the Canada Games Pool in Thunder Bay is exceptionally “fast” short course, we will see some really fantastic swimming times recorded by ALL our swimmers. Results from this swim meet and Man-Sask Championships in March will also serve as a basis for selection to the NWO Regional Team for the Ontario Summer Games in August 2010. The KSS Entry Deadline is 6:00 PM on Saturday February 13/10. Please get your forms in A.S.A.P. 

KSS Swim-a-thon 2010  ~  We are still waiting (and waiting and waiting) for our Swim-a-thon 2010 Kits to arrive from Swim Ontario. They apparently were mailed some time last week, so must be traveling around the world prior to arriving in Kenora.  Never fear, they will arrive (I hope!!!!), and our Swim-a-thon will proceed during the week of March 1 to 6/10 with different KSS training groups doing their Swim-a-thon “Swims” on different days. I will publish a schedule of Groups and Days / Times for Swim-a-thon next week.  As this is such a short KSS Fundraising project (five weeks from start to finish) swimmers are urged to get going on their Swim-a-thon 2010 just as soon as they receive their Swim-a-thon Kits.
