The First SOGGY LOG of 2010

Welcome back everyone after a short Christmas Holiday break in training, and then all the hard work done during our Christmas Schedule. All our swimmers appeared to enjoy their Christmas break, with relaxing and eating and sleeping-in being high on the list of things to do. Then they really got back into some hard training, and we certainly built a great deal of physical fitness over the Holiday break, which I know will show at swim meets during January, February and March.

Final mileage for our Training Groups during the KSS Christmas Camp was as follows: CG1 ~ 60,300 Meters; CG1A ~ 47,800 Meters; CG2 ~ 22,500 Meters; CG3 ~ 20,600 Meters. A great job by all our swimmers. All swimmers became very tired and sore over the course of the training camp, but now as we return to our normal schedule their bodies will adapt to the reduced training stresses, and we should see real gains in each swimmers strength, endurance, and speed in the water.

Upcoming Events ~ Both Short Term and In the Not To Distant Future

NWO Region Education and Training Camp Weekend, January 15, 16, 17, 2010 in Thunder Bay. At least 16 and hopefully 17 KSS swimmers will make the trip to Thunder Bay for this weekend camp. Camp Directors will be ~ Performance Camp - John Vadeika, CEO of Swim Ontario, and Development Camp - Christy Yaremczuk, Swim Ontario Age Group Development Coordinator. I know that all our participating swimmers will learn a lot, will enjoy some really new and different training ideas, and will all have a whole lot of fun during the weekend.
MB Marlins New Years Swim Meet, January 23 & 24, 2010 in the training tank, Pan Am Pool, Winnipeg. All KSS competitive swimmers should have received a copy of the Travel Permission Form for this swim meet. If not, or yours got eaten by the change room monsters, these forms are posted on the KSS Website. I would like to encourage all competitive swimmers to compete in this swim meet for at least one day of the swim meet.
KSS Swim-a-thon 2010 ~ All information and Swim-a-thon Pledge Kits will be ready to be passed out in the next few days. Please read these over carefully and get to work right away raising $’s for BOTH the KSS and your Excess Fundraising Account!!!!

What Is An Excess Fundraising Account???? Each time the KSS runs a Fundraising Project our swimmers have a certain level of fundraising that they are expected to achieve [i.e. ~ sell one book of raffle tickets, etc.]. Once this level is achieved they enter into the realm of “Excess Fundraising” where a portion of all $’s raised are then credited to their personal “Excess Fundraising Account”. Dollars in these accounts can be used to pay a portion of regular swim fees, to purchase KSS uniforms & equipment, and for swim meet expenses. This is a win-win situation, as swimmers build up $’s which they can then use for “swimming” expenses, while the KSS benefits from the extra efforts put forth by our members.

Please put in the extra amount of effort needed to sell as many KSS Raffle Tickets as possible. Each extra book(s) of tickets you sell will help your swimmer with future swimming related expenses.

Western Canadian Championships, February 18, 19, 20, 21, 2010, Saskatoon, SK. The following four KSS swimmers have qualified to compete at this swim meet: Laura Stasiuk (19) who is currently attending UBC in Vancouver but will compete representing the KSS, Michelle Balcaen (15), Paige Murphy (13) and Ronan Cameron (16).
NWO Regional Championships, January 26, 27, 28, 2010, in Thunder Bay. ALL KSS competitive swimmers should participate in this swim meet. Swim meet information and Travel Permission Forms will be given to all KSS competitive swimmers early next week.
Manitoba-Saskatchewan SC Championships, March 18, 19, 20, 21, 2010, Winnipeg, MB. The last in our series of “championship” type swim meets during the short course (25 meter) season. The KSS should have a fairly large and strong contingent of competitors for this swim meet. I’m hoping for at least two or three new qualifiers coming out of the NWO Champs in Thunder Bay.
