The Soggy Log ~ December 14 – 19, 2009

Welcome everyone to the KSS 2009 – 2010 Winter Session. And a very special welcome to a number of new Junior Sharks Program members who will be starting their swimming careers today (Monday) and/or Wednesday PM’s. Some hints for all our swimmers: Please make certain that you dry your hair and wear a hat after swimming. We want you to stay healthy, and dressing properly at this time of the year is the number one way to ensure you stay in the pool and are not laid up with a cold or the flu. Also ensuring that you get lots of sleep and eating good nutritious meals will help!!!

Two Schedule CHANGES for the Winter Session: 1] CG4/Pre-Competitive Group(s): We have added a second CG4/Pre-Comp Group. This group will swim on Monday / Wednesday / Friday ~ 5:30 – 6:30 PM plus CG4 swimmers are encouraged to swim on Saturday AM from 8:30 – 9:00 AM (Dryland) and 9:00 – 10:00 AM in the pool. This new group will be coached by Tina Fisher (a certified level 2 coach). The schedule for our original CG4/Pre-Comp Group coached by Janet Findlay will remain the same as during the Fall Session. By creating this second CG4/Pre-Comp Group we will give all swimmers involved some added flexibility in terms of training times. Swimmers can come to either the early practice (Mon / Wed – 4:00 – 5:00 PM) or the late practice (Mon / Wed / Fri ~ 5:30 – 6:30 PM) depending upon their other scheduled activities; 2] For CG3 ~ We have added an optional training session with CG2 on Thursday afternoons from 4:00 – 5:00 PM plus 5:00 – 5:30 PM Dryland. We currently have the space in the pool on Thursday afternoons so any members of CG3 may attend this additional training session if they choose to do so.

KSS DEADLINE REMINDERS: 1] NWO Region Swimmer Education & Training Camp, January 15, 16, 17, 2010, in Thunder Bay. Registration Deadline is Tuesday December 15, 2009. Eligible Swimmers ~ CG1/CG1A/CG2 plus Andrea Price, Sarah Frankcom and Haley Norlen-Graham from CG3. 2] KSS Christmas Training Camp, December 21 through until Saturday January 2, 2010. Eligible Swimmers ~ CG1/CG1A/CG2/CG3 and possibly one or two swimmers in CG4. Registration Deadline is Saturday December 19, 2009. Please Note: Swimmers who do not wish to commit to the 100% attendance requirement for our Xmas Training Camp or are unable to commit to this requirement for whatever reason are still strongly encouraged to attend as many training sessions as possible over the Christmas Holidays. Please refer to the KSS Christmas Schedule, which was passed out to all swimmers over the past two weeks. A SPECIAL EVENT FOR ALL KSS SWIMMERS: KSS “Sharks Olympics”, Friday December 18 and Saturday December 19/09. All swimmers are asked to attend their regularly scheduled training sessions, during which we will be running some fun “Sharks Olympics” events. Events chosen will be appropriate to the age and skill set of the swimmers involved. A hint ~ CG1/CG1A/CG2/CG3 will participate in the Olympic Finals for the Noodle Relay. Each group will have one, or two, or three special “Sharks Olympics” events interspersed during their regular swim session. Please try to attend, and parents, bring your cameras. It could prove to be quite a lot of fun!!!!!!!

December Swim Meet Results: We have just finished our two big December Swim Meet weekends with the annual Prairie Winter Invitational Swim Meet in Winnipeg December 3, 4, 5, 6/09 followed last weekend by swim meets in Dryden (the Dryden Dolphins Invitational, December 12/09) and again at the Pan Am Pool in Winnipeg (the St. James Seals Christmas Invitational, December 12 + 13/09). Results were mostly very positive from all participating swimmers. For complete meet results please go to the Swim Canada Meet Site and download results.

Upcoming swim meets in the early New Year that the KSS may or may not compete in are the MB Marlins Invitational January 30 + 31/10 in Winnipeg, the Western Canadian Championships, February 18, 19, 20, 21, 2010 in Saskatoon, SK, the NWO Regional Championships, February 26, 27, 28, 2010 in Thunder Bay and/or the Ontario Age Group Championships, February 25, 26, 27, 28, 2010 in Etobicoke, and the Man-Sask Championships (short course) March 18, 19, 20, 21, 2010 in Winnipeg
