KSS Fall Invitational Swim Meet:  A super swim meet for the KSS. Congratulations to all our swimmers who swam so very well, and to all our many KSS parents and other volunteers who worked so very hard during the whole weekend to make sure that this swim meet ran so smoothly. We pushed through a whole lot of swims in record time, and I believe that everyone (swimmers, officials, spectators) had a good time. Some points of interest from the weekend:

  • Over 190 swimmers competed in our swim meet
  • All meet sessions finished within the 4 ½ hour session limitation set by our senior officials. In fact all three were closer to 4 hours in duration including all heats of the 400 Free as well as all heats of the 800 Free and 1500 Free. A great job by our officials!!!!!!
  • Swimmers with 100% Personal Best times were:  Breeze Boucha, Winnie Boucha, McKenna Bye, Liam Candline, Mia Coma, Orion Demisse, Michael Deitsch, JC Drygasuk, Aidan Farrell, Sarah Frankcom, Elliot Hayton, Alex Illman, Teale Ivorson, Alex Jenner, Olivia Kroeker, Brayden Martin, Kayla Martin, Keely Mash, Kyle Moreau, Haylie Norlen-Graham, Andrea Price, Rheanna Price, Clara Rogers, Claire Stefansson, Alyson Stoliker, Kyle Thiessen and Amy Warner.
  • The following four KSS swimmers earned meet qualifying times enabling them to compete in the Prairie Winter Invitational in Winnipeg in December:  Winnie Boucha, Kayla Martin, Kyle Moreau, Alex Olsen and Keely Mash.

Our next KSS hosted swim meet will be our annual NWO Open Swim Meet scheduled this season for the weekend of April 9, 10, 11, 2010. Let’s all keep working hard to make this swim meet just as successful as our Fall Invitational.

Upcoming Swim Meets

We have three swim meets scheduled for December. The annual Prairie Winter Invitational in Winnipeg on December 3, 4, 5, 6/09 and then the next weekend two swim meets, the St. James Seals Christmas Swim Meet in the Pan Am Pool (Winnipeg) training tank, and an NWO Invitational Swim Meet in Dryden. Entries have been sent in for PWI with 14 KSS swimmers registered to compete in this big pre-Christmas swim meet, and I will have the KSS Travel Permission Forms for both the Seals meet and the Dryden meet ready to hand out and/or download on Saturday AM. Hopefully many of our swimmers who are not competing in PWI will enter one of these two swim meets for both days (Saturday December 12 and Sunday December 13) or for just one of the days.

Swimmers and Parents Social Evening:  All KSS families are invited to attend the following two (related) social events on Saturday November 28/09. For our swimmers a night of bowling at the Kenora Bowling Lanes, and for our parents a relaxed social evening at the HoHo Restaurant. Swimmers will be put into teams with special prizes for the teams that record the highest score and the lowest score bowling. Parents are invited to join our KSS coaches for an informal talk and discussion on our program, our goals for our season, and any other topics you may wish to discuss. Dinner (?) and drinks O.Y.O.

The KSS Fall Session is scheduled to end on Saturday December 5, 2009

Our Winter Session is scheduled to begin on Monday December 14, 2009. I hope everyone will enjoy the week off training. However, the KSS will maintain a minimal maintenance schedule for the following swimmers:

  • All Swimmers in CG1 and CG1A are asked to swim on Tuesday December 8 and Thursday December 10 between 4:00 – 5:00 PM

  • All swimmers entered into either the St. James Seals Christmas Swim Meet or the Dryden Dolphins NWO Invitational Swim Meet will also be asked to swim on Tuesday December 8 and Thursday December 10 between 4:00 – 5:00 PM.
  • A special Junior Sharks Trial Program for new JRS Swimmers will be held on Tuesday December 8 and Thursday December 10 between 5:00 – 6:00 PM. The registration fee will be $20.00 per swimmer, with $10.00 credited towards the JRS Winter Session Registration if they join the JRS Program.
  • All KSS members are asked to talk to friends, neighbours, people at work, etc. about putting their children into our JRS program. You are our best recruiters, and we need your assistance with this. It may be easier to talk newer swimmers into trying our program if they are accompanied by current members of the JRS Program. Current JRS swimmers are asked to bring a friend to our JRS Trial Program. As long as your friend registers for the program you can swim with them for FREE
