Great Wolf Howling Halloween Invitational Swim Meet

Post meet Coach’s note:  A very good swim meet for the KSS!!!!! Many Personal Best Times (based on times recorded at this meet last year), and some really good racing by our KSS swimmers. I was really pleased that we had just one D.Q. in the whole swim meet, and that was in a backstroke turn by a newer swimmer, so it will be easy to fix. Our swimmers won many heats employing solid race tactics, and placed well in many of their events. Final results will be posted on our KSS website shortly. Great job swimmers.

Original Post: The KSS will begin their competitive season by competing in the Great WOLF Howling Halloween Invitational Swim Meet  October 23, 24, 25, 2009 in Minneapolis, MN. This swim meet is held in the Northdale Middle School Pool, 11301 Dogwood Street, NW in Coon Rapids, MN.

Northdale Middle School Pool is 25 Yards, quite FAST, is equipped with an electronic timing system with an eight lane scoreboard, and an adequate amount of deck space for swimmers and seating in the bleachers for parents. Last year the swim meet was very well run, and the competition was excellent for all our swimmers. We would like to see as many of our competitive swimmers as possible compete in this early season swim meet.

Travel:  Leave Kenora Recreation & Wellness Centre on Friday October 23/09 at 8:00am returning Monday October 26 early am.  Team may travel with the club by a combination of rental vans and parent carpools or on their own with family.

Some reminders from our travel coordinator:

• As of June 1 you require a passport to cross the border into the United States. An exception is made if you are under 15 or traveling on a team bus. You may then get across with your birth certificate or a copy of your birth certificate.
• If you are traveling with the team without a parent present, you MUST have a letter signed by your parents allowing you to travel with the team.
• Please make sure you have U.S. dollars with you. It is hard to find places to exchange dollars on the weekend. Small denominations are better.
• Health insurance may be a good idea.
• The age groups are split for this meet. The majority of the 12 and under races are in the morning, 13 and up in the afternoon.
• Warm ups start at 7:30 till 8:30 for morning swimmers. Racing to start at 8:40. The PM warmup will not start before 11:30.
• The web site says there are concessions available.
• THERE WILL NOT BE A TEAM COOLER!

Eligible Swimmers:  Only swimmers who are registered “competitive” swimmers (CG1, CG2, CG3, CG4) are eligible to compete in this swim meet. All participating swimmers will be entered into 6, 7, or 8 Individual Events and possibly Team Relays if our numbers let us put relay teams together.
