The Soggy Log ~ October 16, 2009

Edie and I are back from Kona, Hawaii and I feel like it is time to really get our new swim season into high gear. Kona was wonderful; extremely beautiful, tremendous weather, amazing black sand beaches, and the sea turtles and fish seen while snorkeling were just out of this world. The Ironman was quite a race. About 1800 competitors from 56 countries. It was hot (92 degrees), windy and very difficult conditions. Edie finished 6^th in her age group, which was a bit disappointing for her, but I was really proud of the way she raced and her final result. Maybe someday we will return for another kick at the can.

A highlight of our trip was a swim clinic Edie and I attended on Sunday October 11/09. This was a special Freestyle clinic presented by Karlyn Pipes-Neilson who holds every World Masters Freestyle record (50 meters to 1500 meters) in the 45-49 age group. Karlyn is just a fantastic swimmer and had some quite new and different ideas on how freestyle should be swum. Hopefully we can apply some of these ideas to our swimmers.

and CG4. Prizes for the “Best Costume”. All Junior Sharks and CG4 swimmers are asked to be on the pool deck by 4:55 PM so that we can get started right at 5:00 PM. Our schedule: Mini Meet Warmup ~ 5:00 – 5:15 PM. Mini Meet ~ 5:15 – 6:30 PM.

Please Note: All competitive swimmers will swim just one hour from 4:00 – 5:00 PM.

KSS Fall Invitational Swim Meet ~ November 14 & 15/09 ~ right here in beautiful Kenora, ON!!!!! All KSS competitive swimmers (CG1/CG2/CG3/CG4) will be entered in our swim meet. In addition, our KSS coaches may invite a few members of our Junior Sharks Program who they feel are ready (or getting ready) to move into our competitive program to swim in this swim meet. All Entry Forms and swim meet information sheets will be handed out next week.
Prairie Winter Invitational Swim Meet ~ December 3, 4, 5, 6/09 ~ Pan Am Pool, Winnipeg. PWI meet Qualifying Times are posted on our KSS bulletin boards (for swimmers and parents information) or you can click on this link to be re-directed to the Qualifying Times on the Manta Swim Club website. Swimmers must make at least ONE meet Q.T. plus Swim MB pre-requisite times in order to compete in PWI. Please Note: Swimmers who make 1 Q.T. will be able to compete in 5 bonus events (total of 6 events). Hopefully many of our swimmers will make their Q.T.’s at our Fall Invitational.
Dryden Dolphins pre-Christmas Sprint Meet ~ December 12 & 13/09. This NWO Regional meet will be open to all KSS competitive swimmers as well as a few Junior Sharks swimmers.
