Whew, our “almost” summer is certainly moving quickly towards September and the start of a new Swim Season. I hope that everyone has enjoyed their time away from the pool, that you have all remained active during the summer, and that you will all be returning to the KSS in September with renewed energy and enthusiasm to see just how good you can become. The following are some random items and thoughts from this summer, and information on upcoming programs. Are you getting bored with Summer????? Are you ready to start back into a light Dryland Training Program????? PLEASE READ ON ~ 2008-2009 Group 1 and Group 2A Swimmers are INVITED to participate in a light Dryland and Swim Program at Anicinabe Park on the following dates in August: Tuesday August 18, Thursday August 20, Tuesday August 25 and Thursday August 27 ~ 4:00 – 4:45 PM Dryland followed by a short swim in Lake of the Woods (Air and Water temperature permitting). Swimmers are asked to meet at the Bar-b-que area by 3:55 PM. You will need appropriate clothing (shorts, T-shirt, and running shoes overtop of a bathing suit). We should be finished each day by 5:15 – 5:30 PM.
~ An “Outdoor” Training program followed by a short swim in the pool for ALL our “Competitive” swimmers. Dates: Monday August 31/09, Wednesday September 2/09 and Thursday September 3/09 ~ 4:30 – 5:15 Dryland (shorts, T-shirt, and running shoes) followed a short swim ~ 5:30 – 6:00 PM; plus Saturday September 5/09 ~ Swim 8:00 – 9:00 AM followed by Dryland from 9:15 – 10:00 AM. Your cost is $20.00. Now here’s a deal …. bring a friend to our Junior Sharks Trial Program for swimmers 6 to 16 and participate in our Early Bird Fitness Program FREE!!!!!
You will find a link to the forms for BOTH the Early Bird Fitness Program and the Junior Sharks Trial Program above. Please print the Early Bird Fitness Program and fill in the information. Bring with you on the first day of the program. PLEASE print a number of copies of the Junior Sharks Trial Program and distribute / pass these out to friends and homes in your neighbourhood. We hope to get a number of new swimmers joining the Junior Sharks Program during the Fall Session, and YOU are our very best form of recruitment.
A “Possible” New Program for 2009 – 2010 ~ KSS Teen Fitness Program. A program for “teens” aged 13 and over. The program will feature a mixture of Dryland/Strength Building exercises plus a small amount of aerobic swimming. Whether this program goes ahead depends upon our initial registration for the Fall Session. We need to have enough swimmers registered in this program to at least cover our coaching and pool costs.

Masters Black Sturgeon Lake Swim and Social – Thursday August 6/09 ~ Six KSS Masters Swimmers set out from Elsie Neufeld’s home on Black Sturgeon Lake and swam 2.8 km to Randy and Debbie Small’s Island camp. The water was perfect - clear, calm and quite warm – and we all enjoyed the swim and/or boat ride to the Island. Afterwards everyone had a great time discussing the lovely weather we have been having, enjoying the pot luck snack table goodies, and just a beautiful evening on the water. Thanks very much Randy and Debbie!!!!!!
