PRE-CAMP INFORMATION

NWO Region 13 & Under Training & Educational Swim Camp  ~    ~  Kenora: Northwestern Ontario Regional Swimmers who are 13 years of age and younger are invited to apply to attend a special NWO Regional 13 & Under Training and Educational Swim Camp scheduled for the weekend of January 16, 17, 18, 2009 at the Kenora Recreation Centre. Selection of swimmers for this weekend camp will be based upon the following criteria:

  • 1st   ~  All swimmers must be registered “competitive” swimmers with a NWO Regional Swim Team;
  • 2nd  ~   Swimmers must be capable of  comfortably completing the following Training Standards:
  • 6 x 100 Freestyle on 2 Minutes AND/OR 5 x 100 Stroke (Not Free) on 2 Minutes 15 Seconds
  • 1 x 200 Kick in under 4 Minutes 30 Seconds

[Please Note:  The training standards are intended to ensure that swimmers who attend this training camp are  both "fit" enough and "skilled" enough to enjoy a positive experience at this weekend camp].

  •  3rd  ~  This NWO 13 & Under Training and Educational Swim Camp is designed to run with 36 – 42 swimmers in attendance. Should fewer then 30 swimmers register, the KSS will notify NWO Regional Teams who do NOT have swimmers qualified to participate in the camp; these teams will be invited to send their TWO most suitable swimmers to the camp. This will ensure that we have as many NWO Regional Teams as possible represented and benefiting from this weekend camp.

Registration Fee:  $40.00 per swimmer.

Coaching:

  • All NWO Teams who have swimmers participating in this swim camp must provide at least ONE coach to help run this swim camp.
  • All NWO Coaches [whether they have participating swimmers or not] are “invited” to help run this weekend swim camp. We will work together to make this the very best possible learning and training experience for all swimmers and all participating coaches.
  • Swim Ontario Guest Coach  ~  Christy Yaremczuk, Regional Development Coordinator for Swim Ontario, and the former Head Coach of the Cobra Swim Team.

Swimmer Information:

  • Swimmer Travel  ~  The NWO Region will cover Travel costs for the weekend [vehicle rentals if necessary] and team car pool gas. Receipts must be provided.
  • Accommodation  ~  A block of rooms has been booked at the Kenora Super 8 Motel. Swimmers are expected to share rooms [2 to 4 swimmers per room]. Designated Chaperones will be funded by the NWO Region. Parents who would be willing to serve as official NWO Regional Chaperones must submit their names to NWO Regional Director Janet Hyslop at JANET’S EMAIL ADDRESS .
  • Meals  ~  The NWO Region will provide swimmers with healthy snacks at appropriate times during each days activities, as well as a Pizza & Salad dinner on Saturday PM at the Super 8 Motel.
